Tampa
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:17 am »
The Galish Group has an office in Tampa and I just found out I will be going down there several times a year. My first trip is in a few weeks. Any suggestions on restaurants or things to do?

Where's the office / hotel located in Tampa?   I lived in Tampa for 10 years - wanted to suggest restaurants not too far from where you'll be.

My sister and BIL live down there. She is heavily involved in the arts community. Let me know if you want me to msg both of you on FB and she can let you know about things that are going on or maybe show you around.

Hi can't recommend Busch Gardens enough - Busch Gardens has the best roller coasters I've ever been on!

Ybor City is a fun place to hang out... it's on the North end of town. Outside of that, I'd try to get some beach time in St. Petersburg - it's very close. I love Tampa.

Saw a handful of great concerts at Jannus Landing (Now Jannus Live) back in the late 80s.  Pretty unique courtyard venue and probably worth a bookmark for you.  It says they've recently given it a major overhaul though, so I fear for the singularity and charm that it once had.

Don't know that your time off will allow enough time, or how much of it is still there, but a trip out to Egmont Key is well worth the journey.  The site says accessible only by private boat, which was the case when we used to visit by sailboat, but I believe there is now a public ferry.

I just looked up the address and it's actually Largo.

Longboat Key, which is drivable, is also pretty nice.

Take a ride out to Anna Maria Island, go to the Rod and Real Pier and have lunch.  Great place if you want to avoid touristy scene

Not really familiar with Largo, but if you go out to dinner on the beach near Indian Rocks, I recommend a quick stop here for a beer or cocktail.  It's one of the best dives I've ever been to.   If I were working in Largo, probably would stay on the beach anyway.   You're only like 5 miles away.    All above recommendations are awesome too.

Largo is a suburb of the Tampa area. Think of it as Roswell is to Atlanta.

Simply put, chill the f out, and enjoy the authenticity of this place.  I mean, the couch is up on blocks for Christ's sake.  The cat will jump on the bar in front of you. The dog might sleep right on your foot. You may even get a grandma shaking her ass to "Baby Got Back" on the jukebox... actually I hope you do because that is some funny shit.

That sounds like my kind of bar  |@|

The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is kinda wonderful.  Really cool to see a bunch of goofy pelicans take off from there at sunset.
